Last week, Gov. Doug Ducey signed into a law a bill that will expand the state’s Empowerment Scholarship Account program, otherwise known as school vouchers.
Under the new law, all students will eventually be able to apply to use the vouchers, which allow them to use taxpayer money to pay for private-school tuition.
Some public-school teachers and education advocates felt it was a slap in the face by the governor after they partnered with him to pass Prop 123 to increase funding for public education last year.
And this morning, many of those public education advocates are gathering at the state Capitol to demand that lawmakers make a budget that prioritizes teacher pay raises and forgoes additional tax cuts.
And one of those advocates who’s there this morning is Dana Naimark, president and CEO of the Children’s Action Alliance.
