PHOENIX – Protesters took to the State Capitol Thursday as lawmakers and Gov. Doug Ducey were on the brink of sweeping changes to where Arizona’s education dollars are spent.
Thursday, the Arizona State Senate passed a bill to expand a school voucher program to all the state’s children by the year 2020. Right now, the program is available to a fraction of them.
But not everyone is pleased with the bill — critics call it “welfare for the wealthy,” arguing it gives well-off families money to enroll their kids in private schools while removing funds for public schools where less wealthy students attend.
