Press Release
Coalition Offers Parents, Teachers, Advocates Chance to Weigh In
WHAT:
Funding for public schools makes up a significant portion of the state general fund budget. AZ Schools Now, which represents many of the constituencies most closely impacted by education policies and budgets, believes the voices of parents and teachers must be part of the education budget process. As such, they are hosting community hearings across the state to solicit public testimony on the K-12 public education budget proposals put forward by Governor Ducey and others. Legislators have been invited to attend, and testimony will be recorded.
WHY:
Parents, teachers and community leaders hand-delivered and mailed hundreds of requests for a public hearing on the education budget to Speaker J.D. Mesnard and President Steve Yarbrough. Because legislative leadership has not responded to those requests or scheduled a single public hearing on the budget, AZ Schools Now has stepped up to provide Arizonans a chance to weigh in.
