Jeff is the 2014 Coconino County Teacher of the Year and the 2015 Arizona Educational Foundation Ambassador of Excellence. He moved to Arizona in 2011 because of the beautiful weather and scenery, but he’s wondering whether he should stay. When he first moved to Flagstaff, he was told his salary was low because the state was still recovering from the Great Recession. But six years later, his district is still cutting its budget because the state still hasn’t made schools whole. Jeff thinks that if legislators really believed government should be run like a business, they’d realize they have a problem and raise salaries to attract and retain teachers. Does the state want the best and brightest to stay? Then they need to act because teachers like him can and will go elsewhere for better pay.
