People in Phoenix, Tucson and Prescott took part in the Lifting Our Voices for Education (LOVE) Rally to show support for public education on Arizona’s Statehood Day.
Rep. Lela Alston, Rep. Michelle Udall, student advocate Andy Simek and 2017 Arizona Teacher of the Year Michelle Doherty were among the speakers and the Cesar Chavez High School marching band performed at the rally at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix.
Other LOVE rallies organized by AZ Schools Now were held in Tucson and in Prescott Valley.
Speakers at the LOVE Rally held at Bradshaw Mountain High School in Prescott Valley included Richard Adler, governing board president of the Humboldt Unified School District, Aimee Fleming, principal at Lake Valley Elementary, Amy Bowser, a gifted teacher at Lake Valley Elementary and Granville Elementary and Marta Samuelson, a parent from Abia Judd Elementary in Prescott.
Attendees were encouraged to make Valentines for legislators to remind them of how important public education is to the future of the state.
